Last month we welcomed a group of participants to help shape a new approach in Herefordshire called Think Family. Working alongside The Herefordshire Safeguarding Children Partnership and Safeguarding Adults Board, WMWA facilitated a group feedback session where those with lived experience were able to have their voices heard. This feedback has been used to amend aspects of this approach in order for working practises to support the victim better.

Think Family means professionals thinking about the whole family and their needs when providing support. It is about working with all members of a family, understanding each person’s needs and how they interact with one another, and coordinating the support and services from all organisations. This includes considering family support networks and understanding what “family” means to an individual; recognising that family means different things to different people.

The new practitioner approach in Herefordshire will be promoted to all organisations that work with children, young people, families, and/or adults at risk.
