Since beginning in November 2024, The Young Person’s Prevention Programme has now delivered 98 healthy relationship sessions in schools across West Mercia, reaching over 10,500 students. The programme aims to tackle misogyny and gender stereotypes through interactive, inclusive, non-judgmental, healthy relationship work.
The project is funded by a consortium of West Mercia commissioners (OPCC, Telford & Wrekin Council, Shropshire Council, Herefordshire Council and Worcestershire Council and is delivered by a partnership of specialist organisations; The RightPath, Everyone’s Invited and West Mercia Women’s Aid.
The RightPath’s unspoken truth educational programme challenges the learner to reflect and respond on opinions and ideologies that are rooted in misogyny. They have delivered sessions in 29 schools, running small group sessions with between 6-8 students over 3 consecutive weeks, with over 500 students receiving the programme.
Everyone’s invited delivered their Safe relationships programme that offers a one-hour interactive talk to whole year groups on Sexual Wellbeing, providing foundational knowledge on healthy relationships and clear communication. They have delivered 69 sessions to over 10,000 students.
Sessions were also delivered to teachers to cement learning and influence culture within the school longer term.
West Mercia Women’s Aid have provided mentoring support for those not in education, employment or training, home schoolers, Looked After Children, Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children, care leavers etc. This has been delivered in groups or one to one sessions focussing on identifying what a healthy relationship looks and feels like. 20 sessions have taken place for 39 young people.
We are pleased that due to the success of the pilot, the programme has been funded for a further year until 31st March 2026. Please email prevention@wmwa.org.uk for more information or to make a referral.
