This year, WMWA joined communities across Herefordshire and Worcestershire to mark White Ribbon Day and the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. From conferences and marches to open-air services and campaigns tackling online abuse, it was a powerful period of reflection, action, and solidarity.

White Ribbon Conference

On 21 November, our team attended the inspiring Herefordshire & Worcestershire White Ribbon Conference 2025. The online event brought together speakers, practitioners, and community members under the theme #WeSpeakUp, encouraging men and boys to challenge sexism, harmful behaviours, and violence against women and girls (VAWG).

Our Children and Young Person’s IDVA Co-ordinator led a session highlighting our work supporting children and tackling misogyny and unhealthy relationships in schools and communities:

“Attending this year’s event has been a powerful reminder of what becomes possible when passionate people with a shared vision come together. I feel privileged to have been part of this inspirational day, and have left with a deepened commitment to play my part in tackling these societal issues through meaningful action.”

Male Supporters & #WeSpeakUp

The #WeSpeakUp theme also shone a spotlight on our male supporters, who help challenge harmful behaviours and build a safer, equal world for women and girls. From calling out sexism to advocating for respect in everyday interactions, their voices are helping to create a culture that does not tolerate violence.

RISE-UP Service

As part of the 16 Days of Activism, Hereford Mothers’ Union held an open-air service at Hereford Cathedral to raise awareness and call for an end to all forms of gender-based violence. The service focused on domestic abuse and re-dedicated to the RISE UP pledge: Respond, Inform, Support, Empower, Unite, and Pray.

WMWA was proud to attend and support this meaningful service, which also celebrated the ongoing contributions of male allies.

HIDVA Hospital Awareness Stands

Throughout the campaign, our Hospital IDVAs (HIDVAs) set up White Ribbon awareness stands in hospitals across West Mercia. Their aim was to raise awareness of the campaign, promote our services, and start conversations about domestic abuse and support pathways.

We received fantastic feedback: many members of the public engaged with the stands, took away information, and shared their own reflections and experiences. These interactions highlight just how vital visible, accessible awareness-raising is — especially in healthcare settings where many survivors first reach out for help.

Reclaim the Night March

We also joined the Reclaim the Night March in Worcester. First held in 1977, Reclaim the Night began as a bold statement that safety is a right, not a privilege — a response to harassment, fear, and restrictions placed on women.

Decades later, the message remains just as powerful:

  • Everyone deserves to move freely and safely, day or night

  • We stand against violence, harassment, and fear

  • We reclaim our streets, our voices, and our nights

Walking together in solidarity, we called for change and celebrated the strength of our communities.

Spotlight on Online Abuse

25 November marked White Ribbon Day and the start of the 16 Days of Activism with the global theme:

UNiTE to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls

Throughout the campaign, WMWA highlighted the importance of safe online spaces, amplified survivor voices, and shared practical actions we can all take to tackle digital abuse. Together, we can create lasting change both offline and online. 💛
