About WMWA – Domestic Abuse Specialist Services

West Mercia Women’s Aid (WMWA) is a voluntary sector organisation governed by a board of trustees.  It supports and empowers women and children affected by domestic abuse in Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.  We provide specialist support services, and focus on developing and influencing strategic partnerships, educating society, and building an effective values-based organisation.  We build confidence and self-esteem, and encourage an understanding of power relationships and how they work.  We help the victims of domestic abuse to value themselves and to invest in their own development.   We work to create a society free from domestic abuse, by campaigning, training other agencies and informing the general public. We also provide support to men who have been abused in their intimate partner relationships, and to anyone who is at risk of so-called honour-based violence or forced marriage.

What Difference Do We Make?

Every year WMWA supports thousands of women and children affected by domestic abuse.  Our interventions enable women to leave behind the dangers and trauma of living with domestic abuse and violence and establish safe, productive and independent lives for themselves and their children.  Their courage and motivation is what inspires us daily in our work.

Roles at West Mercia Women’s Aid include:

  • Domestic Abuse Support Workers (Adults)
  • Support Workers (Children & Young People)
  • Helpline Support Workers
  • Refuge and safe house accommodation Workers
  • Independent Domestic Violence Advisors
  • Safeguarding Officers
  • Management, monitoring and central administration staff

Interested in becoming a Volunteer?

WMMA has a variety of volunteer roles across all services and also offers student counselling placements. Many of our paid staff began working at West Mercia Women’s Aid as volunteers, and built upon that experience to successfully apply for futureemployment with us – or with sister organisations.
