We are committed to amplifying the voice of survivors, earlier this month one of our clients shared an incredible poem she had written about her experiences.

Lost at Sea

Safe, I thought I was on your boat
Secure and ready to stay afloat
But as I sailed I had found
Nothing was anchored no more ground

I was lost on the waves of your emotion
Crashed and pummelled sea sick from you commotion
Behind that sweet smile was cruelty and lies
I was lost at sea my life capsized

No beacon, warmth or homecoming light
Just an overwhelming sadness and fright
But no one sees the tears I shed
When I’m alone and in my bed

I was a champion for love readily I gave
Held you up, your life to save
I thought one path we together walked
But not once you listened you just talked

Criticized, belittled and put down
Anything you didn’t like or understand
I was drowning in the perception you gave me
A nobody with nothing was all I could see

Love blinded my sight on how I had changed
Blind to your games and how you were deranged
But one day the wind turned and I could see
Your true face and suddenly I could see reality

Of where I had come from and where I was going
Of how stagnant and stuck I was, no flowing
Just hoping was never going to be enough
My heart was too soft for one so rough

So I jumped ship in my life boat raft
And once again found my smile and laughed
Of how I was tricked to think that was love
And glad that someone was watching from above

To give me the strength to walk away
To find my voice and have my say
No more groundless lost at sea
Just my kids my own self worth and me
