West Mercia Women’s Aid were delighted to be invited to a recent event at thePoint4 Gym, organised and delivered by Humna Hussain, an A Level student at the Royal National College for the Blind (RNC).

Humna reached out to us as part of her Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), having chosen to plan a charity and health information event. Her aim was to create an opportunity for staff and students to learn more about local organisations, gain valuable health, wellbeing and safety advice, and explore ways to support their community.

Our Adult Community team and Children & Young People’s Services were proud to take part, delivering an engaging and interactive stall. We focused on healthy relationships and self-care, encouraging students and staff to share their thoughts on what makes a relationship healthy or unhealthy. These discussions sparked meaningful and insightful conversations.

We also explored self-care, inviting visitors to reflect on how they make time for their own wellbeing. This naturally led into a sensory activity, where participants created their own aromatherapy bunny to take home. Students thoroughly enjoyed the creative process, experimenting with different scents and selecting oils that suited them. The activity provided a relaxed and engaging way to continue conversations about wellbeing and the support we offer.

Throughout the day, we had the privilege of hearing from students about their experiences of living with visual impairments and the ways they navigate and overcome challenges. Their determination, positivity and openness were truly inspiring. One student shared how attending RNC had given her the confidence, tools and specialist support needed to progress in her education.

The event was both insightful and enjoyable, leaving a lasting impression on our team.

At West Mercia Women’s Aid, we are committed to ensuring our services are accessible to all. We work with interpreters and adapt our resources and delivery methods to meet individual needs.
