The Children and Young People’s Team began delivering summer groups in the summer holidays in 2022 and we have continued to run these popular programmes ever since. This enables us to not only meet demand but to also keep in touch with those vulnerable young people that will not be seen by other professionals over the long summer period. For the past three years, the summer groups have been a great success, the young people have enjoyed their time meeting peers and engaging with activities that will help them to feel positive, optimistic and safe.
This summer the Team is going to be delivering five intensive group programmes during the summer holidays. Each group will be facilitated by two members of the team. The Helping Hands programme is available to children between the ages of 7-11, and the CRUSH programme is available to children and young people aged 12-19.
In Hereford, we will be running one CRUSH group, and one Helping Hands group. In Worcester, we will be running both a CRUSH group and a Helping Hands group in Kidderminster, and also a Helping Hands group in Worcester City. We have planned this programme in order to meet the current profile of demand in Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Children and young people attending will work through all of the same programme content as our term-time groups, just condensed into two-three days rather than weekly sessions. We have learned through communication and feedback with children, young people and their parents that this format is better suited to some of them.
