Megan recently completed a skydive in support of West Mercia Women’s Aid, raising £700 to help support women and children affected by domestic abuse.

For Megan, this challenge was about more than fundraising – it was a personal milestone in a journey towards safety, freedom and rebuilding her life.

“A way to give back”

Megan was referred to West Mercia Women’s Aid by the police following the arrest of her perpetrator. Since then, she has been supported by our Independent Domestic Violence Advisors (IDVAs) and has taken part in a range of programmes including the Freedom Programme, Power to Change, and is currently midway through our Nurture programme.

Reflecting on her experience, Megan shared how important ongoing support has been throughout her journey:

“I cannot thank the charity enough for all the support provided to me. I am incredibly grateful. I have always felt supported and the IDVAs have always advocated for my safety. It is hard to put into words how grateful I am – but this is why I chose to do the skydive in the first place. It was my way to give back.”

A moment of freedom

For Megan, the skydive itself became a powerful symbol of her journey.

“The free feeling of jumping out of a plane with it marking a year since my road to freedom was incredibly special. My family, who I was isolated from for years, were all waiting for me at the bottom too.”

Music also played a meaningful role in her experience, with Defying Gravity from Wicked resonating deeply during her decision to leave her abusive relationship:

“‘It’s time to trust my instincts, close my eyes and leap’ – out of a plane!”

Turning experience into action

Megan’s story is a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of survivors, and the importance of specialist support services in helping people rebuild their lives safely.

Her courage in taking on this challenge has not only raised vital funds but also helped shine a light on the impact of domestic abuse – and the difference that consistent, compassionate support can make.

We are incredibly grateful to Megan for sharing her story and for her generous fundraising in support of our work.
