🌟 Trustees’ Week | 3–7 November 2025 🌟

This week marks Trustees’ Week across the UK — a celebration of the nearly one million trustees who dedicate their time and expertise to strengthening charities and communities nationwide.

At WMWA, we are proud to highlight the remarkable women who guide and support our work. Their commitment, knowledge, and passion help ensure that our services reach those who need them most, and that we continue to make a meaningful difference in our communities.

As part of our Trustees’ Week celebration, we’ll be introducing three of our Trustees, sharing the stories behind their dedication and the inspiration that drives them.

Today, we are delighted to introduce our Trustee, Jenny Sawyer

Jenny has been a feminist for as long as she can remember following in the footsteps of her mother and great grandmother who was a proud suffragette.  When she moved to live in Worcester Jenny felt the time was right to look for a volunteering role that would help her use that passion for women’s equality to make a change and in March 2022 she became a Trustee for West Mercia Women’s Aid. A senior HR and employment professional for over 20 years, Jenny is experienced in creating platforms for achieving positive outcomes from challenging conversations. These skills are essential in helping WMWA to promote the change needed in the attitudes and culture that result in continued violence against women and girls.  Jenny is also a member of the Employment Sub-Committee of the Board and uses her skills and knowledge to advise and support the organisation in its responsibilities as an important employer in our local communities.

Jenny is particularly concerned to help WMWA in its work with young people to develop their understanding of healthy relationships.

“As the mother of a teenage son, I can see first-hand the challenges for boys and girls growing up today and the devastating impact on young women and girls if we don’t take action to temper the negative influences in society and media.  I am encouraged by the work that WMWA does with its partners to engage with young people in a way that is as much about listening to them as it is about shaping their views and opinions. Feminism is about equality for all, and I truly believe that open, and respectful dialogue with young people will provide us with a level of understanding that isn’t always obvious through our other work.”

Thank you, Jenny, for your invaluable contribution and for helping to make a difference in the lives of women and communities across West Mercia.
