🌟 Trustees’ Week | 3–7 November 2025 🌟
This week marks Trustees’ Week across the UK — a celebration of the nearly one million trustees who dedicate their time and expertise to strengthening charities and communities nationwide.
At WMWA, we are proud to highlight the remarkable women who guide and support our work. Their commitment, knowledge, and passion help ensure that our services reach those who need them most, and that we continue to make a meaningful difference in our communities.
As part of our Trustees’ Week celebration, we’re introducing three of our Trustees, sharing the stories behind their dedication and the inspiration that drives them.
✨ Today, we are delighted to introduce our Trustee, Maddison Walker.
Maddison joined our Board of Trustees in September 2025 having been encouraged to do so by another trustee who is also a business associate. She is a self-employed business consultant and is keen to draw on her expertise in strategy and business growth to help West Mercia Women’s Aid as it continues to develop to meet local challenges.
As a successful business-woman, Maddison is aware that she does not fit the stereotype of a victim/survivor of domestic abuse but this is indeed her story and a strong part of her motivation for joining WMWA.
“I’m aware that I come from a position of privilege – stable home, good education, loving parents – and yet surviving my own experience of abuse was really hard – terrifying at times. I can’t imagine what it would be like for women who haven’t had the advantages that I have had in life. I want to use my experience to help strengthen our work for all women – and in particular for those not as fortunate as I have been.”
Maddison has a particular passion for prevention – for helping women to better see the ‘warning signs’ in a relationship and to have higher expectations for how they should be treated and what a good relationship should look – and feel – like. She wants to use her experience to help educate employers on how best to support their employees when they are living with – or seeking to escape from – violent and/or abusive relationships. And she is also keen to support our work in encouraging men to stand up against male violence by giving them the knowledge and the tools to do so in a way that will make a real difference.
Thank you, Maddison, for your invaluable contribution and for helping to make a difference in the lives of women and communities across West Mercia.
