At West Mercia Women’s Aid, our Children and Young People’s Team provides specialist support to children and young people aged 4–19 who have experienced domestic abuse, or who are identified as being at risk. We know that one size does not fit all, which is why our services are client-centred, inclusive and accessible, and tailored to meet individual needs.

While our Children and Young People’s Team is primarily funded by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) – alongside funding from local authorities across West Mercia – charitable donations play a vital role in strengthening and enhancing the support we can offer. We are incredibly grateful to the individuals and organisations who choose to support our work and help us make a meaningful difference to the lives of children and young people.

One such organisation is the Widows Sons Masonic Bikers Association (MBA) – Taurus Chapter. The Widows Sons are part of an international brotherhood of Freemasons who share a passion for motorcycling and fundraising for charitable causes. Since April 2025, the Taurus Chapter has been raising funds for West Mercia Women’s Aid helping us to extend the reach and impact of our services.

Thanks to their generosity, we have already been able to purchase valuable resources and materials for our work with children and young people. This includes everything needed to support the launch of the STAR Recovery Programme, which provides structured, trauma-informed support to help children and young people recover and rebuild following experiences of domestic abuse.

On Saturday 7 February, the Widows Sons hosted a Lip Sync Battle Charity Night to raise further funds for our Children and Young People’s Team. The evening was filled with big songs, bold performances and plenty of laughter. During the event, the Widows Sons also formally presented West Mercia Women’s Aid with a generous donation of gifts, sensory items and resources that will directly benefit the children and young people we support.

Members of the West Mercia Women’s Aid team were delighted to attend the event on the night; our CEO, Sue Coleman,  Maddie Nichols from our Children and Young People’s Team and Amber Coates our Fundraising Officer. It was a wonderful opportunity to see first-hand the community spirit, creativity and generosity that went into making the evening such a success.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Widows Sons for their generosity and continued support. The funds, gifts and resources donated will make a real and lasting difference to the children and young people we work with, helping us to create safe, supportive spaces and deliver meaningful, trauma-informed support. It means so much to our team — and to the young people we support — to know that the community is standing alongside us.”  Maddie Nichols, WMWA Children & Young People’s Team

We are extremely thankful to the Widows Sons Masonic Bikers Association – Taurus Chapter for their continued commitment, fundraising efforts and support. Their kindness and community spirit help us to ensure that children and young people across West Mercia receive the specialist support they need to feel safe, heard and supported.
